Startup Valencia has closed out an exceptional year, having grown its membership and partnership base to over 350 entities. This feat was accomplished by welcoming 78 new members, resulting in a 30% increase from the previous year and bringing the total number of members to 338. In addition, three new collaborators have joined the 23 already working with the association.
As reported by the Valencia Region Startup Observatory, the number of participants in the local startup ecosystem has seen a significant boost, with a 19.2% increase in entities, totaling 1,547 compared to 1,297 in the previous year. Furthermore, the number of registered startups has grown from 1,012 to 1,212, marking a noteworthy 20% increase. Additionally, Startup Valencia’s database has experienced substantial growth, achieving a 102% increase from the previous year, boasting over 23,000 subscriptions at present.
The president of Startup Valencia, Juan Luis Hortelano, noted that these numbers “represent Startup Valencia’s ambition to consolidate its tech hub – already the third largest in Spain – as an international benchmark”.
Startup Valencia has emphasised that the organisation has “successfully established itself as a leader in the tech and innovation ecosystem in 2022”. They also pointed out that Valencia Digital Summit has played a crucial role in this achievement.
The international tech event, held at the renowned City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia from the 24th to the 26th of October, drew in a crowd of over 12,000 attendees from over 70 countries. The event prominently showcased the region’s immense potential as a hub for open innovation and a premier destination for startups, investors, and corporations to convene.
International meetings
Throughout the year 2022, Startup Valencia actively engaged in the main international events within the industry, including eMerge Americas, Web Summit Lisbon, and South Summit. Additionally, the organisation orchestrated trade missions that enabled Valencian entrepreneurs to pursue business prospects abroad, including the successful Mission to Miami in October, which is planned to be repeated in 2023.
“The completion of the startup tech hub project in La Marina de Valencia will play a critical role in solidifying the Valencian ecosystem’s position as a leading tech hub in Southern Europe, by drawing in both top talent and investment,” Hortelano stated.
Construction work on La Terminal, the international tech hub for the Valencian entrepreneurial ecosystem spearheaded by Startup Valencia, is forecasted to end by the last quarter of 2023.
This space will house more than 500 highly qualified jobs and it will serve as an essential point of connection between startups, scaleups, corporations, investors, and other key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
