Startup Valencia, organiser of the Valencia Digital Summit, has announced the 10 startups that have reached the final of the VDS2022 Competition. These startups will present their projects to the more than 10,000 attendees, 150 corporations, and 250 national and international investors—the last of which boast a collective portfolio of over €6 million to invest in the coming year—that will gather from the 24th to the 26th of October at the City of Arts and Sciences.
All in all, more than 500 startups from 35 different countries have applied to this competition, backed by Plug and Play and promoted by Startup Valencia. Overall, this is a figure that, as stated by Juan Luis Hortelano, president of Startup Valencia, represents a 25% increase compared to the number of applications made in 2021 and is a sign of the Valencian Region’s “potential for attracting talent and investment”.
So, at the awards ceremony, scheduled at 17:00 on the 26th of October, an international jury made up of renowned investors and professionals such as Sébastien Lefebvre, partner at the French venture capital firm Elaia; Mariano Amartino, Americas Managing Director at Microsoft for Startups; Nelly Markova, principal of the English venture capital firm Molten Ventures; and Juan Luis Hortelano, president of Startup Valencia, will be tasked with choosing the winning startups of the VDS2022 Competition in the Seed and Growth categories. The ceremony will be moderated by Paloma Mas, Events and Culture Manager at Plug and Play.
After all, with this initiative, Valencia Digital Summit seeks to promote innovative companies from the Valencian ecosystem in order for their projects to grow, consolidate and contribute to inspiring a better future.
The 10 finalists
The startups in the final of the Valencia Digital Summit 2022 Competition operate in various sectors: Logistics, Mobility, Health, Fintech, Insurtech, Industry 4.0, Foodtech, Software and Traveltech.
Half of the finalists are of Spanish origin, most of them from the Valencian Community: Arkadia Space, Mojito360 and Trebellar. Barcelona’s Exheus and Madrid’s Reental complete the Spanish representation in the final phase of the competition. The rest come from Slovakia (Proky), the United Kingdom (Delivers.AI and Drill Surgeries), Italy (BizAway) and France (IDnow).
Arkadia Space
The startup, led by Francho García, develops and sells high-performance sustainable propellant-based propulsion systems and services for all types of satellites and space vehicles. In 2020, after more than 4 years working together in the space propulsion sector, four engineers with over 35 years of combined experience founded Arkadia Space in Castellón, in the Valencian Community.
BizAway
The Italian tech company offers a unique, fast, and all-in-one solution to book and manage all the parts of a business trip with just one click. BizAway was born from a team of developers and professionals with the aim of simplifying every aspect of the business travel experience by guaranteeing users optimal management of their time and the available resources.
Delivers.AI
This Turkish startup, with offices in London, Istanbul and Dubai, has developed a robot that offers an on-demand delivery service for food, groceries and parcels. It is designed to deliver products from shops to the customer’s doorstep completely autonomously, combining state-of-the-art navigation technology with aesthetic design.
Drill Surgeries
The medtech company founded by the Valencian Moisés Barberá develops medical devices designed to improve the way in which intramedullary nailing surgeries are performed. Drill Surgeries develops innovative medical devices for trauma operations that simplify the work of the surgeons by reducing the length of the surgery and the impact of the X-rays on doctors and nurses.
Exheus
Led by Teresa Tarragó, this tech company has developed a genetic analysis approach that uses artificial intelligence to detect and correct alterations. Exheus is able to sequence the expression of genes (RNA) from a small blood sample and analyse the information using artificial intelligence algorithms. This makes it possible to detect all the alterations that affect the patient’s health and correct them by means of specific interventions.
IDnow
IDnow is a leading European identity verification platform whose vision is to make the connected world a safer place. They offer innovative solutions to companies that require customer identification and online contract signing, such as banks, telecom companies, fintechs, etc. Their client portfolio includes companies such as UBS, Sixt, Telefónica and N26.
Mojito360
The Valencian company, led by Hugo Mira, offers B2B management and tracking software for international logistics. Mojito360, an initiative led by the Romeu Group, has developed a digital platform that allows the real-time tracking of land, air and sea freight shipments.
Proky
This Slovenian platform for catering and hospitality professionals helps save time, reduce costs and avoid food waste by digitalising their supply chains and automating their processes through artificial intelligence. Proky is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the EU’s European Regional Development Fund.
Reental
This is a Madrid-based startup specialising in tokenising investments in the real estate sector. They offer the chance to invest in tokenised real estate from as little as €100 and from anywhere in the world. Reental currently has a portfolio of 24 properties in the provinces of Valencia, Castellón, Seville and Malaga, which represents almost €5 million in tokens.
Trebellar
The startup founded by two Spanish entrepreneurs but based in USA centralises and analyses data generated by buildings so that it can be used effectively. By making buildings smart, Trebellar makes them more sustainable, efficient and comfortable, and it becomes the participation system for all building stakeholders.
