Valencia will take part in City Resilience Hack, an international hackathon that will bring together representatives from European cities, startups, entrepreneurs, corporations, universities and international specialists in Tallinn on 24 and 25 September to develop solutions for emergencies, crises and disruptions to essential services.
Startup Valencia, which is part of the organisation of the hackathon, will connect the initiative with multidisciplinary teams and specialised talent from the Valencian Community capable of developing applicable solutions to the challenges presented.
For its part, the Ayuntamiento de Valencia, through Valencia Innovation Capital, will contribute the city’s perspective and help identify urban needs and the priority areas participants will be able to work on.
The initiative is promoted by the City of Tallinn and Tehnopol, with the participation of Valencia, Helsinki, Dnipro and Lviv. The event will be held in the Estonian capital within the framework of the Estonian Defence Week.
Technology to build better prepared and more resilient cities
City Resilience Hack aims to develop solutions that allow cities to better anticipate, respond to and recover from situations of emergency, crisis or disruptions to essential services.
The challenges set by the participating cities will be linked to areas such as smart emergency management, the protection of critical infrastructure, coordination between public agencies and services, communication with citizens during crisis situations and healthcare and social care.
Proposals may incorporate technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analysis and visualisation, cybersecurity, connected digital platforms or decision-support systems.
“Taking part in City Resilience Hack allows Valencia to share knowledge with other European cities and work on solutions that respond to real urban needs. From Valencia Innovation Capital, we want the city to be a space where technology can be tested, validated and contribute to improving the response capacity of public services and the quality of life of citizens”, states Paula Llobet, Councillor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment Attraction of the Ayuntamiento de Valencia.
The teams will work on challenges set directly by the participating cities and will have the support of public officials, urban experts, mentors and international specialists during the development and validation of their proposals.
“City Resilience Hack opens an opportunity for startups and entrepreneurs from the Valencian Community to work directly on challenges defined by European cities. Our role is to connect this initiative with the talent of the Valencian technology ecosystem and help ensure their solutions gain access to new spaces for validation, collaboration and internationalisation”, explains Juan Luis Hortelano, president of Startup Valencia.
€75,000 in prizes and piloting opportunities
The most outstanding solutions will compete for a total fund of €75,000 in prizes. Selected projects will also be able to access piloting and acceleration opportunities to continue developing their proposals and explore their possible application in the participating cities.
City Resilience Hack will connect real urban needs with technology and specialised talent, enabling the solutions developed during the event to continue progressing after the hackathon.
Open call to the Valencian ecosystem
The call is aimed at startups, teams and professionals linked to areas such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, software development, logistics, urban planning, health, defence, design, user experience, entrepreneurship and public management.
Both already established teams and professionals interested in joining multidisciplinary groups during the programme may submit their applications. The hackathon will take place in person in Tallinn and will have English as the working language.
Participants will be able to work on needs presented by European cities, develop solutions with piloting potential and establish new connections with public administrations, companies and international experts. Registrations will remain open until 10 September 2026. Want to represent Valencia in Tallinn? Sign up for City Resilience Hack before 10 September.
