In recent weeks, the news has been buzzing about Valencia being named the European Green Capital for 2024, positioning the city at the forefront of sustainability and the fight against climate change.

To commemorate this prestigious designation, the city is set to host over three hundred activities and events throughout the year. These actions are designed to engage the entire society, from businesses and professionals to the general public, with the aim of “raising awareness about the triple crisis of pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change, and empowering people to take action.”

The month of January kicked off the event agenda with the inaugural day, which we attended at Startup Valencia to highlight the efforts of entrepreneurs and startups working towards social change for a better world.

International Day of Clean Energy

Moreover, in January, specifically on the 26th, the International Day of Clean Energy is celebrated. This day was designated by the UN “to raise awareness and mobilize towards a fair and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.” As the United Nations portal emphasizes, “fossil fuels account for almost 90% of all carbon dioxide emissions. Scientists assert that to avoid the most negative impacts of climate change, emissions must be reduced by nearly half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.”

This objective closely aligns with Valencia’s goals for 2024 in implementing actions to combat climate change and mitigate its impact.
