Proteus Innovation is a company that develops unmanned vessels for businesses and individuals with the goal of digitalizing the aquatic sector. Today, many traditional methods are used in maritime rescue and lifesaving that are effective; however, most of them are not very efficient because their large size and weight make the start-up time long. This increases the response time and, consequently, the risk of saving a life. Therefore, one of the main problems faced by traditional rescue systems is the response time required to rescue a person and, consequently, the number of deaths that this can entail. The main technological challenges that the new device will solve are focused on the maritime rescue and lifesaving industry, with the creation of a completely innovative product that allows for faster and more effective rescues. This device is called Nàutic and is a marine drone designed to carry out rescues in the water. A one-meter-long unmanned boat that can be steered by radio control or piloted by a lifeguard, and includes a radio for constant communication with land. It can also carry up to three people. Nàutic has two main functions: 1. It can steer by radio control to the person in need of help, provide them with a flotation device, and tow them to a safe area, avoiding putting the rescuer’s life at risk. It will also have a radio system for communicating with the person being rescued from the shore. 2. If the person to be rescued is unconscious, the lifeguard can use the device as a propeller, pilot it on board, and navigate to the person much faster than swimming. Once at the scene, the lifeguard will place the rescued person in a safe position and transport them to a safe area. With this, the device’s use in rescue operations will significantly reduce response time by more than half, minimize potential risks to the rescuer in cases where the accident site is difficult to access, and significantly increase the number of lives saved thanks to the new device’s built-in features.
