Throughout the month of March, Startup Valencia remained fully committed to supporting the Valencian innovation ecosystem, with a busy schedule of events including both its own and third-party conferences and roundtables. The association also achieved historic milestones that reinforce its regional, national, European and international role in the innovation sector.
This March, Startup Valencia has reached some major milestones for the Valencian ecosystem. On the 6th of March, the organisation cleared the final hurdle for the creation of the La Terminal tech hub, following the approval of its concession by the Port Authority of Valencia. This is a remarkable success story that involves an investment of over €3 million and will provide more than 500 highly skilled jobs opportunities. This, in turn, will strengthen Valencia’s position as a leading hub for tech entrepreneurship in Southern Europe and a business bridge for startups and investors from around the world.
On the same day, the call for participation opened for speakers at Valencia Digital Summit 2023, the international technology event that will be held for the sixth time on 26th and 27th October at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. Under the slogan ‘Building the Good Future’, this edition is expected to bring together more than 1,500 start-ups and more than 10,000 attendees from over 80 countries in an event centred on the transforming role of technology, innovation and digitalisation in society.
In addition, during the SEW23 (Startup Europe Week 2023), Nacho Mas, CEO of Startup Valencia, participated in a discussion on “Innovation and tech-based events in Valencia” with the aim of highlighting the value of VDS2023.
Startup Valencia began March with a busy agenda of activities too, starting with the 4YFN, event of the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona from the 27th of February to the 2nd of March. Eleven facilitators from the Valencian ecosystem were selected by VIT Emprende to participate in the global tech event under the slogan ‘Time 4 Valencia’.
On the 2nd of March, the Corporate Committee meeting was held in which Startup Valencia gathered representatives from member corporations, along with key players of the ecosystem, at the Demium offices to establish connections and present upcoming actions. During the meeting, there was also a Mascletà (a traditional fireworks display) and a Valencian paella served.
Additionally, within the framework of CEVISAMA, the international ceramics event held between the 27th of February and 3rd of March, Startup Valencia had its own stand, in collaboration with Feria Valencia, at which seven startups showcased their innovative solutions and services: Enerlind, Masquedomos, Mojito360º, Myexporters, The Virtual Company, Sunalizer and Xnova International.
The Tech Transfer Committee of Startup Valencia organised the Science Law Webinar aimed at professionals interested in science-based entrepreneurship projects. The webinar featured the participation of Judith Saladrigas, Secretary of the Board of Directors of Startup Valencia, and Nacho Mas.
Throughout the month, Startup Valencia also continued its efforts to support the challenges facing Valencian startups. On the 6th of March, the Valencia College of Economists (COEV) hosted a round table titled “Valencia, Startup Incubator: Growth and Future” featuring experts from the Valencian ecosystem, including Diego Ferragud, Borja Sanjuán, Ramón Ferrandis, Darío Olivares De la Concepción and Santiago Ros. Similarly, Startup Valencia participated in the 2023 edition of FORINVEST on the 8th and 9th of March, with its own stand and with the round table on the “Valencian Community Ecosystem”.
On the 9th of March, the Startup Valencia Blockchain Hub co-organised the session “Tokenisation: Opportunities and use cases” with Alastria at the GoHub Ventures venue. The event, which gathered over 100 attendees both in person and virtually, aimed to explore the potential opportunities and use cases of tokenisation as a new growth engine for companies.
The month ended on a high note with Startup Valencia’s participation in two major international events. From the 21st to the 23rd of March, as a Strategic Partner, the association had its own stand at the eMobility Expo World Congress Valencia. On the first day of the event, Karina Virrueta, Head of Ecosystem Development, moderated a round table on the keys to promoting innovative sustainable mobility projects. Moreover, on the second day, the association co-organised the “E-mobility Startup Pitches” with Banco Santander, where leading startups in the mobility sector presented their projects.
The final event of the month was The Next Web (TNW) Valencia, a satellite edition of the tech event powered by The Financial Times, held on the 30th and 31st of March at La Marina de Valencia, and of which Startup Valencia was a strategic partner. The event aimed to consolidate the internationalisation of the Valencian tech and innovation ecosystem by bringing together entrepreneurs, C-level executives, department heads and product developers.
Within the framework of this tech event, Startup Valencia organised an after-work event with its partner BBVA Spark, which served to foster stronger connections between members and partners of the association and to end the first day of TNW Valencia on a positive note.
The month of March was rounded off with a visit to La Terminal de Valencia Innovation District by Startup Valencia, with the aim of advancing the strategy for the upcoming start of work on the space. On top of this, the association launched the VDS2023 international startup competition, to find the most disruptive tech companies in the world that will make a significant contribution to building a better future.
