Valencia Startup has kicked off 2023 with a packed schedule of media appearances, events, and meetings throughout January, setting the tone for a busy year ahead. These initiatives are aimed at scaling the Valencian ecosystem internationally and solidifying the progress made during the 2022 fiscal year. Last year ended on a high note for Valencia Startup, boasting 78 new members and totaling 338 members and 25 partners.

Nacho Mas, CEO of Valencia Startup, was interviewed for a report by À Punt on the 10th of January at La Marina de València. During the interview, Mas shared the impressive growth of the innovation ecosystem in 2022: “Despite global economic uncertainty, our sector saw a 20% growth,” he stated. The report also highlighted the success stories of two member startups, GutXain and Uelz, with their co-founders, Lorena García and María Luke, sharing their success stories and future prospects.

On the 17th of January, Startup Valencia was honored with a visit from the Minister of Finance of the Generalitat Valenciana, Arcadi España. The purpose of the visit was to explore new avenues for collaboration between the association and the Generalitat, with the ultimate goal of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in Valencia.

The realization of the startup tech hub project at La Marina de Valencia will be a pivotal moment in solidifying the Valencian ecosystem as a leading tech hub in southern Europe. To ensure the success of the project, several visits to La Terminal, the site of the future hub, were conducted in January to assess the building’s condition. The renovations are expected to be finished by the end of 2023, creating a vibrant space that will provide over 500 highly-skilled job opportunities and serve as a physical meeting place for startups and scaleups to connect and collaborate.

On the 18th of January, Valencia Digital Summit 2023 was presented at FITUR, with Juan Cartagena, a board member of Startup Valencia and founder of Rosita Longevity, representing the association. Cartagena emphasized the significance of the sixth edition of this international tech event and the valuable opportunities it provides.

Moreover, on the 25th of January, the 29th edition of El Mundo Que Viene was hosted by Valencia Startup and BStartup of Banco Sabadell, featuring a panel made up of Roberto Sarasa (HP), Ana Karen (ClimateTrade), Paula Arias (Fresh People), Amparo García (Zeus and Sesame), and Eva Cantero (The Cross Experience) who shared insights on attracting and nurturing future talent.

To wrap up the month of January, Nacho Mas led a session titled “Challenge: Entrepreneurs Dive into a Shark Tank to Raise a Virtual €1M” as part of the 2nd edition of the Energy Revolution Avaesen Congress on the 26th of January. The session saw startups Tornasol Energy, Aldea Energy, and The Predictive Company pitch to secure funding from Zubi Capital, AEPIBAL, and BIGBAN Private Investors. The congress was held at the Príncipe Felipe Museum of the City of Arts and Sciences.
